Interesting Facts about Indian Premier League 2019

IPL- the most followed cricket league around the world possesses hardcore fans from every country in the world. The tournament runs for a month and half every year during April-May. Comprising of 8 teams, 60 matches are played in every season of IPL. The 12th season is about to start from March 23rd, 2019 and this year’s IPL is expected to draw even more audience than before.

The T20 formatted tournament registers many records within the tournament and is known for its fast-paced games. Of these records some are bizarre and are unknown to many. We have collected some of these facts for your entertainment. Check them out.

  • Zaheer Khan is the only player to play the first and the 500th IPL match.

Zaheer Khan was selected by RCB in the first tournament and for the 500th match, he played for Delhi Daredevils.

  • Kolkata Knight Riders players have never registered another century after Brendon Mc Cullum made his first in the Inaugural Match.

McCullum scored a whopping 158 runs in 73 balls against RCB.

  • Chris Gayle holds the record for most centuries (6), most man of the match awards (20), highest individual score (175), most sixes (292).
  • The Highest number of dot balls in a season were delivered by Dale Steyn in 2013.

Of a total of 407 balls over 50% i.e., 212 were dot balls.

  • RCB has a record of scoring the highest as well as the lowest total in IPL.

In 2013 they scored 263 runs against Pune. This is the highest total in IPL and T20Is. In 2017, they were all out for a meagre total of 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Both the matches happened on April 23rd.

  • Among all the international players, Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard are the only ones to have played more than 100 games for a single franchise.

  • No Bowler except Bhuvaneshwar kumar had won the purple cap twice in the entire history of IPL, that too in consecutive years (2016-2017).
